As opposed to non-immunogenic cell death, this general term focuses on the observation that dead cells or dying cells may elicit an immunological response in the organism, irrespective of the cell death modality involved (for example, autophagy, apoptosis, necrosis, necroptosis) (for a general overview see: Garg et al, 2015).
