hypertrehalosemic hormone

abbr. HrTH, also: HTH. This insect hormone stimulates the fat body to synthesize trehalose, a non-reducing disaccharide comprising two glucose molecules that is the main blood sugar of many insects (for metabolism see: Becker et al, 1996). Their sequences are related to those of adipokinetic hormone and pigment-concentrating hormone.

A neurohormone (pEVNFSPGWGTamide) has been identified by Hayes et al (1986). It increases hemolymph carbohydrate (trehalose) levels in the cockroach, Blaberus discoidalis. The corresponding cDNA encoding the hormone precursor has been cloned by Lewis et al, 1997).

Gäde and Rosiński (1990) have isolated a hypertrehalosemic ... ... ... ... ... Subscribe to continue reading! ... ...
