[helmet cell]
An aberrant shape form of erythrocytes (for normal morphologies see also: discocytes; for aberrant forms see: poikilocytes). A variant of helmet cells has been termed keratocytes. The occurrence of such cells may suggest a disease in the microvasculature (Ward, 1979).
