The term germinal center B-cells (abbr. GC B-cells) pertains to populations of B-cells found in germinal centers, transient specialised structures formed in secondary lymphoid organs upon exposure to T-cell-dependent antigens. In these centers B-cells undergo selection and maturation into plasma cells producing high-affinity antibodies, a process involving somatic hypermutation / affinity maturation (to produce antibodies with optimised recognition of antigens by generating mutations in the variable regions of immunoglobulin) and class switching recombination (enabling B-cells
