abbr. GKN2. This protein, so named because of its sequence relationship with gastrokine-1, has been identified independently as Blottin, GDDR, and TFIZ1.
Gastrokine-2 is a secreted peptide of human gastric surface mucous cells (Kouznetsova et al, 2007). It forms disulfide-linked heterodimers with a member of the trefoil factor family known to be of importance for gastro-intestinal mucosal protection and repair, TFF-1 (Weswtley et al, 2005). Binding to another member of this family, TFF-2, has been reported also (Kouznetsova et al, 2007; Otto et al, 2006). Gastrokine-2 may modulate gut epithelial cell proliferation (Otto et al, 2006).
