gas-2
[Growth arrest-specific gene-2] gas-2 is one of the growth arrest-specific genes identified in quiescent, serum-starved NIH 3T3 mouse fibroblasts (see: gas genes).
The human gas-2 gene encodes a protein of 313 amino acids that differs from mouse Gas-2 in only 8 residues (Collavin et al, 1998). The human gene maps to chromosome 11p15.2-p14.3.
gas-2 protein expression appears to be regulated in a cell-specific way as gas-2 expression in keratinocytes isolated from murine back skin differs from that seen in NIH 3T3 cells. In keratinocytes
