galanin message associated peptide
abbr. GMAP. Galanin message associated peptide (60 amino acids) originates as a C-terminal sequence from the same prepropeptide that also produces galanin. The peptide displays a much greater divergence between species than galanin (Lundkvist et al, 1995). The distribution of this peptide generally, but not always, parallels that of galanin (Hökfelt et al, 1992).
Bioactivities
Xu et al (1995) have reported that peripheral axotomy increases the expression of galanin message-associated peptide in dorsal root ganglion cells, alters the effects of intrathecal peptide on the flexor reflex in the rat
