this term has been used as a generic term for biologically active peptides derived from food proteins that may function as regulatory substances. Such hormones can be derived from their parent proteins by proteolytic digestion (see also: cryptides). Important sources of such food hormones are the various types of caseins and other milk proteins such as caseins, alpha-lactalbumin, beta-lactoglobulin.
