[find-me signal]
also: come-get-me signals. these general terms refer to a number of soluble signals (proteins, nucleotides, phospholipids), secreted by dying cells that attract phagocytes to sites of apoptotic cell death in order to facilitate the coordinated removal by efferocytosis of dead or dying cells (for overview see: Grimsley and Ravichandran, 2003; Medina and Ravichandran, 2016; Biermann et al, 2013). The cooperation of find-me signals and eat-me signals is necessary for efficient phagocytosis by professional phagocytes such as macrophages and the phenomenon is not restricted to apoptotic cells but is seen also with other forms of cell death, for example,
