abbr. EMPs. These multipotent cells can be purified from yolk sack between 8.5 and 10.5 days post coitum as cells that are CD45(-/low) c-kit(+) CD41(+) (Bertrand et al, 2005) and are thought to be involved in definitive hematopoiesis in the yolk sack. The cells migrate to the fetal liver as early as circulation is connected and can expand and differentiate there until at least E16.5. They are capable of differentiating into macrophages, neutrophils, mast cells, and erythrocytes (Palis et al, 1999) but lack lymphoid cell differentiation potential. Erythromyeloid progenitors and
