dickkopf-1

(from German dick =thick; Kopf = head) abbr. dkk-1. Also: dickkopf-related protein 1 or dickkopf homolog 1. Dickkopf-1 has been identified independently as Sk. The protein (266 amino acids) contains two distinct cysteine-rich domains in which the positions of 10 cysteine residues are highly conserved between members of the dickkopf family (Krupnik et al, 1999). A comparison of genomic sequences of dickkopf-1 from various rodents and mammals has been described by Katoh and Katoh (2005).

Dickkopf-1 is a glycoprotein identified initially as a secreted inducer of Spemann's organizer in the early Xenopus laevis gastrula (Glinka et al, 1993). An ortholog of this gene has been found in other species, including ... ... ... ... ... Subscribe to continue reading! ... ...
