abbr. DETCs. These cells constitute a resident population of T-cells found in murine skin in symbiosis with keratinocytes. These cells are being referred to also as Skin Gamma-Delta T-cells.
Dendritic epidermal T-cells are derived from fetal thymic precursor cells and are significantly different from lymphoid Gamma-Delta T-cells and Alpha-Beta T-cells. They express an invariant form of the T-cell receptor found only in the skin, which recognizes antigens expressed on damaged, stressed, or transformed keratinocytes.
