abbr. for [cerebellar deficient folia]. cdf is a spontaneous autosomal recessive mutation in the mouse (C3H/HeJ strain). Mutants are characterized by having onl7 instead of 10 folia in the cerebellar cortex The cerebellum of the mutant animal is hypoplastic and contains mineral deposits in the ventral vermis that are not present in controls (Cook et al, 1997). The number of Purkinje cells in the cdf/cdf cerebellum is similar to the number in littermate controls (Beierbach et al, 2001). Purkinje cells expressing zebrin-2 disperse normally, but a subpopulation of Purkinje cells that does not express zebrin-2 shows abnormal dispersion and this results in widespread Purkinje cell ectopia in the adult. Approximately 40 % of Purkinje cells
