beta-casein(197-213), called also beta-casein 197, is obtained by hydrolysis of casein-beta and corresponds to amino acids 197-213 of casein-beta (LLNQELLLNPTHQIYPV). The peptide has been identified in preterm human milk as a stable endogenous peptide with a long half-life (Fu et al, 2017). The peptide may act as a defense peptide that shows antimicrobial activity against Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Yersinia enterocolitica.
