abbr. CA 15.3. This antigen is being referred to also as carbohydrate antigen 15.3. It is used widely as a serum marker for breast cancer (Duffy, 2001; Pichon et al, 2009). The antigen is the product of the mucin 1 gene and arises from cleavage of the membrane-bound protein. In the nomenclature of CD antigens this protein has been given the designation CD227.
