beta-lactoglobulin(146-149)

Also: lactoglobulin-beta(146-149). This fragment of beta-lactoglobulin (His-Ile-Arg-Leu; HIRL) is known also as beta-lactotensin. This bioactive fragment acts as an inhibitor of angiotensin-1 converting enzyme (CD143) and may have hypotensive activity (Mullaly et al, 1996).

Yamauchi et al (2003) have identified beta-lactotensin as a neurotensin agonist selective for the neurotensin NT2 receptor. The peptide shows antinociceptive activity, which is mediated by NT2 and dopamine D1 receptors (Yamauchi et al, 2003). It also rapidly reduces serum cholesterol by acting through these receptors (Yamauchi et al, 2003).
