[agglutinin-like sequence 3], termed also als8 [agglutinin-like sequence 8] (Zhao et al, 2004) is a member of a family of related large cell surface glycoproteins encoded by Candida albicans and other Candida species (Hoyer, 2001). Some of these proteins have been implicated in the process of adhesion to host surfaces (see also: adhesins). Phan et al (2007) have reported that Als3 is required for Candida albicans to be endocytosed by human umbilical vein endothelial cells and two different human oral epithelial lines.
