This short peptide, VYQHQKAMKPWIQPKTKVIPYVRYL, is derived from bovine alpha-s2-casein (approved gene symbol: CSN1S2; casein-alpha-s2; Alpha-s2-casein) and has been shown to be an antibacterial peptide active against various microorganisms. The peptide shows hemolytic effects (Recio I and Visser, 1999). Variants of this peptide with increased or reduced bioactivity have been described by Alvarez-Ordóñez et al (2013).
