Also: casein-alpha-s2(164-179). This short peptide, LKKISQRYQKFALPQY (Leu-Lys-Lys-Ile-Ser-Gln-Arg-Tyr-Gln-Lys-Phe-Ala-Leu-Pro-Gln-Tyr), is derived from bovine alpha-s2-casein (approved gene symbol: CSN1S2; casein-alpha-s2; Alpha-s2-casein) and has been shown to be an antibacterial peptide active against various microorganisms. The peptide shows hemolytic effects (Recio I and Visser, 1999). This bioactive peptide has been identified also by Kizawa et al (1995) in trypsin digests of casein-alpha. It has been shown to bind calmodulin and to inhibit calmodulin-dependent cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase.
