The Yt blood group system comprises two antigens, Yta antigen (Eaton et al, 1956) (called also YT1 antigen) and Ytb antigen (Giles and Metaxas, 1964) (called also YT2 antigen), which are expressed on erythrocytes. In many publications the Yt blood group is being referred to also as Cartwright blood group although, strictly speaking, the term Cartwright antigen (patient's surname) refers to the original Yta antigen (Eaton et al, 1956).
Most Europeans are Yt(a+) and approximately 8 % are Yt(b+). Telen et al (1990) have reported that a proportion of Yt(a-b-) peripheral blood erythrocytes
