W/Wv mice

[WWv mouse]

These mice carry a mutation in the kit oncogene (SCF receptor) (CD117) (Nocka et al, 1990). The particular Wv allele, Kit(Wv), [viable dominant spotting; dominant white spotting] arose spontaneously in the C57BL/6J strain. Some homozygotes have a near-normal life span (Little and Cloudman, 1937; Russel, 1949; Fekete et al, 1941).

Kit(W) homozygous mice (Kit(W/W) genotype) lack the kit receptor and with rare exceptions, are not viable (Galli and Kitamura, 1987; Waskow et al, 2002) and can be used, therefore, only for in vitro studies, for example, for the analysis of the development of mature ... ... ... ... ...
