[Van Vugt blood group antigens]
(abbr. Vg(a)), first described by Young (1981), is a low-incidence erythrocyte antigen. Jarolim et al (1998) have reported that Van Vugt blood group antigen involves the mutation at position 555 Tyr>His of erythrocyte band 3 protein (CD233). This antigen, therefore, can be assigned to the Diego blood group system.
