VIM-2 is the designation of a mouse monoclonal antibody specific for human blood cells of myelomonocytic lineage (Macher et al, 1988). The antibody binds to a series of minor gangliosides isolated from the cells of patients with chronic myelogenous leukemia (Uemura et al, 1985).
Immunoreactive gangliosides have been identified as a ceramide decasaccharide, VIII3NeuAcV3-Fuc-nLc8Cer and a ceramide dodecasaccharide X3-NeuAcVII3Fuc-nLc10Cer. Immunostaining with the VIM-2 antibody of gangliosides from normal human neutrophils, acute myeloid leukemia, and chronic myelogenous leukemia cells suggests that expression levels are related to the level of
