UP-7 peptide, PWCYVQVGLKPLVQE (Pro-Trp-Cys-Tyr-Val-Gln-Val-Gly-Leu-Lys-Pro-Leu-Val-Gln-Glu), is derived from the kringle domain of urokinase, a larger fragment of 83 amino acids that is known to inhibit angiogenesis and brain tumor growth in vivo.
UP-7 peptide most potently inhibits the proliferation and migration of endothelial cells in vitro, and also potently inhibits in vivo angiogenesis in the mouse matrigel plug assay. UP-7 peptide inhibits growth factor-induced phosphorylation of FAK and ERK1/2, suppresses the formation of stress fibers and focal adhesions, and also inhibits the attachment and spreading of endothelial cells onto immobilized
