Twisted gastrulation
abbr. tsg (gene: CG1502). This Drosophila melanogaster gene is a conserved extracellular BMP antagonist, a secreted glycoprotein involved in dorsal-ventral patterning. It is required for the specification of dorsal midline cells that will give rise to the extraembryonic amnioserosa, but not for specification of dorsal ectoderm cells. The protein has been shown to inhibit BMP signaling and enhances the antagonistic activity of Short gastrulation by enhancing its binding to dpp [Decapentaplegic] (Mason et al, 1994; Ross et al, 2001).
