abbr. TAF (a term with multiple meanings). Some of the activity is identical with bFGF and several factors with TAF activity have been characterized as ribonucleoproteins. A major component in preparations with TAF activity appears to be a biochemically uncharacterized non-protein (see: HUAF, human uterine angiogenesis factor).
The term is also used as a generic name for soluble mediators secreted by cancer cells that promote the growth of new blood vessels by stimulating endothelial cell growth and cell migration See also: Angiogenesis.
