Tomoregulin-2 is a transmembrane protein related to Tomoregulin. The protein is expressed predominantly in the brain.
The extracellular domain, which contains EGF-like domains and follistatin-like modules, is released from the cell surface, and probably functions as a neurotrophic factor and dendritogenic agent for neurons. Tomoregulin-2 is a trophic factor for dopaminergic mesencephalic neurons. Horie et al (2000) have shown that Tomoregulin-2 acts as a survival factor
