Thrombostatin con-3 [SPWSPCSGNCSTGKQQRTR] is a bioactive fragment (see also: cryptides) corresponding to positions 333-351 of a gene (AAI01021.1) that appears to be a human counterpart of Danio rerio ism2 [isthmin-2], a protein that contributes to early patterning of the zebrafish embryo. The peptide fragment has been shown to inhibit the proliferation and migration of human umbilical vein endothelial cells in vitro and is therefore thought to possess anti-angiogenic properties in vivo (Karagiannis and Popel, 2008).
