abbr. TC2. This antibacterial protein was purified from platelet granules. Thrombocidin-2 is a variant of the CXC-Chemokine CTAP-3 (CXCL7) and differs from CTAP-3 by the C-terminal truncation of two amino acids (Krijgsveld et al, 2000). Thrombocidin-2, but not the parent protein, is bactericidal for Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Lactococcus lactis and fungicidal for Cryptococcus neoformans.
