This targeting peptide with the sequence HLNILSTLWKYRC has been identified by phage display library screening as a peptide with the binding characteristics of tetanus toxin. Binding of Tet1 peptide has been shown to be selective for neurons. Tet1 shows strong binding to cultured PC12 cells, primary motor neurons, and dorsal root ganglion cells. Synthetic Tet1 binds to dorsal root ganglion cells and motor neurons but not muscle cells in tissue sections (Liu et al, 2005).
