[T-effector memory cells re-expressing CD45RA] TEMRA cells are considered to be terminally differentiated CD8+ T-cells (terminally differentiated effector memory T-cells; terminally differentiated EM cells; simply terminally differentiated CD8(+) T-cells in some publications) (Appay et al, 2008; Mahnke et al, 2013). The TEMRA cells described by Sallusto et al (1999) have a CCR7(-) CD45RA(+) phenotype. Low CD127 and high expression of the senescence and exhaustion markers CD57 and PD-1 are signs of terminal differentiation.
