abbr. SGF (a term with multiple meanings). This biochemically uncharacterized factor is found in soluble extracts of rat footpad tissues. SGF induces cholinergic and reduces noradrenergic properties in the sweat gland innervation. In primary cultures of sweat gland cells production of SGF requires neurons. At present it is not known whether SGF is identical with any of the cytokines acting as cholinergic differentiation factors (see, for example, CDF, BDNF, CNTF, LIF).
