[Swann blood group antigens]
abbr. SW, Swa. The Swann blood group antigen is a low-incidence blood group antigen that is not part of, or closely linked to, a variety of other known blood group loci (Lewis M et al, 1998; Metaxas and Metaxas-Buehler, 1976). Zelinski et al (2000) have identified different mutations, CGG-->CAG and CGG-->TGG, that result in Arg646Gln and Arg646Trp substitutions in erythroid protein band 3, respectively, as the basis of the Swann blood group antigen.

In the nomenclature of CD antigens the protein has been given the designation CD233.
