These biochemically uncharacterized factors of 43 kDa (SIF-alpha) and approximately 6 kDa (SIF-beta) are isolated from conditioned medium of the IL3 dependent suppressor cell line M1-A5 (see also: Factor-dependent cell lines) and also from conditioned medium of cultured spleen cells of mice with transplanted M1 tumors. Both factors activate unspecific suppressor cells in unprimed populations of spleen cells that suppress humoral and cell mediated immune responses.
