This antimicrobial peptide, FFSLIPSLVGGLISAFK, from the Brazilian yellow scorpion Tityus stigmurus venom gland has been identified by de Melo et al (2015). The peptide shows antibacterial and antifungal activity, with minimal inhibitory concentrations ranging from 8.7 to 69.5 μM. Stigmurin showed inhibitory activity against clinical strains of Staphylococcus aureus, being bacteriostatic against Staphylococcus aureus S015, bactericidal against MRSA, but ineffective against Enterococcus faecalis. Strigmurin also is an anticancer peptide that is toxic against SiHa cervical cancer cells and the African green monkey kidney cell line Vero E6.
