[Staphylococcus aureus binder of IgG] Sbi is a protein of 436 amino acids expressed by many Staphylococcus aureus strains, including methicillin-sensitive (MSSA) and methicillin-resistant (MRSA) strains. Sbi is a unique immune evasion protein due to its ability to interact with components of both the adaptive and innate immune systems of the host. Sbi is an IgG-binding protein that, similar to SpA, interacts with the Fc part of IgG (Zhang et al, 1998), utilizing two distinct protein domains, Sbi-I and Sbi-II (Atkins et al, 2008). Zhang et al (1999) have shown that Sbi also binds Apolipoprotein H (Beta-2-Glycoprotein 1).
