abbr. SACCs. This cell type with characteristics of stem cells has been isolated from spleen as adherent cells forming densely-packed colonies in a colony formation assay. The cells express alkaline phosphatase and SSEA-1 [[stage-specific embryonic antigen-1]. Their capacity for self-renewal is limited because the cells stop proliferation once colonies visible to the naked eye are formed. Gene expression analyses show significant expression of c-myc and KLF4 but faint or no expression of NANOG, OCT3/OCT4, and SOX2
