abbr. SDGF (a term with multiple meanings). This biochemically uncharacterized glycoprotein of 8-12 kDa is isolated from spleen extracts (Suzuki et al, 1988; Dittrich et al, 1990). The factor specifically promotes the growth of normal fibroblasts. This proliferation-enhancing effect is inhibited by Suramin. The factor also promotes the proliferation of hepatocytes in primary culture in a hormonally defined medium containing insulin, EGF, glucagon, Growth hormone and Prolactin. SDGF may be a mixture of fragments of proteins derived from the extracellular matrix.
