Scyliorhinin-1 |
||
This antimicrobial peptide of 2.3 kDa (TQQAFQKFLAAVTSALGKQYH) with an amphipathic alpha-helical structure has been purified from an acidified liver extract of skipjack tuna, Katsuwonus pelamis (Seo et al, 2014). The peptide shows high homology with the C-terminus of hemoglobin beta-chain from a number of other fish species (see also: Hemocidins). The peptide shows potent antimicrobial activity against Gram-positive bacteria, such as Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, and Streptococcus iniae, Gram-negative bacteria, such as Escherichia coli D31, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella enterica, Shigella sonnei, and two Vibrio parahaemolyticus species
