[Serine protease inhibitor A3n] [serpin peptidase inhibitor clade A member 3n] abbr. also: A3n.
This secreted inhibitor is expressed at high levels in brain, heart, liver, lung, spleen, testis and thymus. Low levels are found in bone marrow, kidney, and skeletal muscle (Inglis et al, 1991; Horvath et al, 2004). Inglis et al (1991) have shown that expression is inducible by bacterial lipopolysaccharides. The protein has been identified independently as Spi2 [serine proteinase inhibitor 2] (more specifically, Spi2.2, which, in the mouse, is part of a larger multigene family] (Inglis and Hill, 1991).
Sipione et al (2006) have shown that Serpin A3n is produced by Sertoli cells
