abbr. SGF (a term with multiple meanings). This biochemically uncharacterized factor is isolated from mammalian testes. It enhances the proliferation of murine 3T3 fibroblasts and is also a mitogen for Leydig cells, Sertoli cells, and capillary endothelial cells. The biological activities of SGF are potentiated by heparin (10 microgram/mL) (see also: HBGF [heparin binding growth factors]).
Antibodies directed against aFGF, FGF5 and bFGF do not inhibit the biological activity of SGF. Some of the activity attributed to SGF
