Semastatin-5A.1 is a bioactive fragment (see also: cryptides) derived from the SEMA5A [semaphorin 5A] gene. Semastatin-5A.1 [GPWERCTAQCGGGIQARRR] corresponds to residues 660-678 of semaphorin 5A (semaphorin 5A(660-678)). Semastatin-5A.1 has been shown to inhibit the proliferation and migration of human umbilical vein endothelial cells in vitro and is therefore thought to possess anti-angiogenic properties in vivo (Karagiannis and Popel, 2008).
