[Sushi repeat-containing protein x-linked 2; X-linked Sushi repeat-containing protein-2]. The gene encoding SRPX2 has been cloned by Kurosawa et al (1999), who referred to it as SRPUL [Sushi-repeat protein upregulated in leukemia]. Roll et al (2010) have cloned the gene and showed that SRPX2 is a secreted protein released by neurons. Expression is under the control of transcription factor FoxP2. Tanaka et al (2012) have reported that SRPX2 is secreted with posttranslational modifications as a chondroitin sulfate proteoglycan.
SRPX2 is secreted predominantly by neurons, but also by other cell types such as chondrocytes
