[survival-related gene] The cDNA encoding SRG has been identified by Yuan et al (2005) by functional cloning in a human expression cDNA library. SRG shows no significant nucleotide sequence homology to other known genes.
SRG encodes a putative protein of 172 amino acids, which is located mainly in the perinuclear region.
High expression of SRG is observed in many human cancer cell lines. Expression is low in most tissues except liver and placenta. Cell engineered to express SRG have been found to be resistant to apoptosis induced by growth factor withdrawal. Blocking SRG expression with small interfering RNAs promotes serum deprivation-induced
