[skin permeating and cell entering peptide] This peptide, ACTGSTQHQCG, has been identified in a phage display screen by Hsu and Mitragotri (2011). The sequence matches completely to a protein in Leishmania major and shows a partial match (GSTQHQ) to a surface protein of skin-resident Staphylococcus epidermidis.
SPACE peptide has been isolated as a skin-penetrating peptide through in vitro phage display in porcine skin. SPACE peptide also permeates across the stratum corneum of human skin and acts as a cell-penetrating peptide with an efficacy comparable to that found in porcine skin.
