SKT factor

A biochemically uncharacterized factor (approximately 18-25 kDa) found in the serum-free conditioned medium of human U937 cells. Addition of this medium to exponentially growing U937 cells and a variety of human tumor cell lines causes cell death by apoptosis. Non-transformed human lymphocytes and monocytes are insensitive. Partially differentiated U937 cells are not killed but induced to full maturation into macrophages.

The activity is not due to TNF-alpha.
