[sialic acid binding immunoglobulin-like lectin H] This murine protein has been identified by Zhang et al (2006). The protein is related to CD33 (See also: SIGLECs). SIGLEC-H lacks tyrosine based signaling motifs in its cytoplasmic tail, which are found in other members of the SIGLEC family. SIGLEC-H possesses the typical structural features required for sialic acid binding but does not seem to bind carbohydrates.
SIGLEC-H is expressed specifically on plasmacytoid dendritic cell precursors in bone marrow, spleen, blood and lymph node. It is expressed also in a subset of marginal zone macrophages in the spleen and in medullary macrophages
