[sialic acid binding immunoglobulin-like lectin 15] This protein has been identified by Angata et al (2007) as a member of a family of cell surface receptors that bind sialic acid moieties (see also: SIGLECs). It is being referred to also as CD33L3 [CD33-like-3, CD33 antigen-like-3].
SIGLEC-15 is a type 1 transmembrane protein expressed on macrophages and/or dendritic cells of human spleen and lymph nodes. The extracellular domain of SIGLEC-15 preferentially recognizes the Neu5Acalpha2-6GalNAcalpha structure. It associates with activating adaptor proteins via its lysine residue in the transmembrane domain
