This factor is encoded by open reading frame ORF062R of Singapore grouper iridovirus (SGIV) and is thought to encode a viral homolog of insulin-like growth factors. With the exception of another grouper iridovirus (GIV) isolated from yellow grouper, Epinephelus awoara, SGIV-IGF has not been found in other members of the iridovirus family.
SGIV-IGF is transcribed early during viral infection. Overexpression of SGIV-IGF enhances SGIV replication during in vitro infection, promotes the growth of grouper embryonic cells by promoting G1/S cell cycle phase transition and mildly facilitates cell death by apoptosis in SGIV-infected non-host fathead minnow (FHM) cells.
