SARI
[Suppressor of AP-1 Regulated by IFN] This protein is an early response gene for type 1 interferons that contains a basic leucine zipper. The approved gene symbol is BATF2 [basic leucine zipper transcription factor ATF-like 2].
The gene is expressed in multiple lineage-specific normal cells, but not in their transformed or tumorigenic counterparts. Inhibition of SARI expression protects HeLa cells from IFN-beta mediated growth inhibition. Overexpression of SARI inhibits growth and induces cell death by apoptosis in cancer cells, but not in normal cells.
